Infant Baptism

Congratulations on the arrival of your little one!

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. (CCC 1213)

Infant baptisms are for children under the age of 7.  Parish membership of the parents is required which includes their active participation in parish life here at Sacred Heart and St. Matthew.  Active participation includes

  • attending mass
  • volunteering for activities and fundraisers
  • financially supporting the parish.

Baptisms are encouraged to be held as part of the weekend Mass.  This allows the rest of your parish family to participate in this joyous occasion.  Parents will need to attend a baptismal preparation class.

Parents who are members of another Catholic parish may have their children baptized at Sacred Heart or St. Matthew provided they have their pastor's permission.

Parents, please contact Fr. Justin Lopina to schedule your child's baptism, preparation class, or for more information.

Please visit the Archdiocese of Milwaukee website for answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about Baptism here.
