Child Ministry K-5

The Child Ministry program is for students from Kindergarten - Grade 5.

Classes are held Monday evenings from 6:15pm-7:30pm. Each year begins with an Open House where families can come and meet their catechist, receive a Family Handbook, pay tuition fees, have a treat, sign up to win door prizes, and ask any questions that you may have.

The Director of Religious Education is Ms. Jodi Murphy.

The textbook series used for grades 1-5 are:

Grade K5       “I am Special”, by Our Sunday Visitor
Grade 1          “Finding God”, by Loyola Press
Grade 2          "Renewed" and “Received”, by Ascension Press
Grade 3          "Venture: Gospel Weeklies", by Pflam
Grade 4          "We Believe, 4th Grade", by Sadlier Religion
Grade 5          "GPS - God's Plan in Scripture", by Ascension Press

Class sizes vary, but are typically around 5-10 children.  Catechists are encouraged to add activities to the textbook lessons to recognize the liturgical seasons and Holy days.  Every grade level is also assigned a traditional Catholic prayer to learn and practice throughout the school year.  Some of the extra activities the students join together to celebrate are:

  • All-Class Masses with their families
  • Christmas Pageant
  • Lenten Activities
  • Reconciliation
  • Service Projects

Regular attendance is stressed and a full calendar of events is handed out at the Open House or may be found on our website.

First Reconciliation preparation begins in the First Grade, following through to the first semester of Second Grade where it is celebrated during Advent.  Second Grade then builds on those lessons in their preparation for First Communion, held after Easter.  Both sacraments are preceded by parent meetings and family workshops as part of the sacrament experience.
