Child Ministry K-5

This program is for students from Kindergarten - Grade 5.

Classes are held Monday evenings from 6:15pm-7:30pm.  There will be an Open House to start off each year during the normal class time so you can come and meet your teacher, pick up your information packet, and ask any questions you may have.

The Director of Religious Education is Ms. Jodi Murphy.

Please see our page for Covid-19 precautions for our Faith Formation programs.

The textbook series used for grades 1-5 are:

Grade K5        “I am Special”, by Our Sunday Visitor
Grade 1          “Finding God”, by Loyola Press
Grade 2          "God's Gift; Reconciliation & Eucharist", by Loyola Press
Grade 3          "We Believe, 3rd Grade", by Sadlier Religion
Grade 4          "We Believe, 4th Grade", by Sadlier Religion
Grade 5          "GPS - God's Plan in Scripture", by Ascension Press

Class sizes vary, but are typically around 5-10 children.  Catechists are encouraged to add activities to the textbook lessons to recognize the liturgical seasons and holy days.  Every grade level is also assigned a traditional Catholic prayer to learn and practice throughout the school year.  Some of the extra activities the students join together to celebrate are:

  • All-Class Masses
  • Christmas Program
  • Lenten Activities
  • Seasonal Reconciliation
  • Occasional community speakers
  • Service Projects

Regular attendance is stressed and a full calendar of events is handed out at the Open House or may be found on our website.

First Reconciliation preparation begins in the First Grade, following through to the first semester of Second Grade where it is celebrated during Advent.  Second Grade then builds on those lessons in their preparation for First Communion, held after Easter.  Both sacraments are preceded by parent meetings and family workshops as part of the sacrament experience.
